WineryHunt Summer Catch-Up
July 1 - August 31, 2020

Of course, we are watching this closely. If things get shut down again, our WineryHunt catchup fun will once again be put on hold. Rest assured you will get the full value of your membership, whether in this calendar year or extended into next.

On this page are the featured wineries ready to welcome you to their tasting rooms. The wineries have agreed to welcome you June 1 through August 31, so you have a solid 8 weeks to take advantage of this!

Safety Precautions, of course:

• Reservations are required at every winery to ensure social distancing
• Wear your mask indoors at all times. Only once seated outdoors and away from others may you remove your mask and enjoy your tasting
• Do not travel if you have any Covid symptoms

Anaba Wines

Anaba Wines

Carneros

From father to son, Anaba Wines is a family winery with a shared dream. Nearly forty-five years apart, both John Sweazey and his son, John Michael Sweazey had the epiphany after time spent travelling (and tasting) in France that they wanted to be in the wine business. John’s dream became a reality in 2006 with the purchase of an estate in Sonoma’s Carneros wine region where Anaba Wines was born. In 2018, John Michael joined the family winery as Anaba was expanding with the construction of a state-of-the-art winery and new Vintners House hospitality center. Anaba Wines specializes in Rhône and Burgundian varieties, inspired favorites shared with warmth and hospitality as their hallmark. The views, wine and hospitality are top-notch at Anaba!

REVISED BENEFIT: Tastings at Anaba have shifted to be very private and by-appointment only. The normal waived tastings for WineryHunt members is not being offered. Members will pay normal $25/tasting fee via the website appointment scheduler. However, all WineryHunt members will receive a complimentary charcuterie platter and 10% off a purchase of 2 or more bottles. Be sure to include a note in Tock that you are a club member when making your reservation.

Wines Produced: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Rhône blends

Anaba is a little hidden gem!!! I love their Chardonnay Estate with the buttery finish... A true discovery for me. The terrace is also really nice and they have some really good Pinot Noir, a must if you are in Sonoma. -SL, Google Review

Cochon Tasting Bar

Downtown Sonoma

Cochon Wine Bar is home to Odisea Wine Company and Cochon Wines, a partnership between Adam Webb and Mike Kuenz. Adam and Mike started their companies to produce wines from varietals that they're truly passionate about; particularly varietals found in the south of France and the Iberian Peninsula. Their goal is to make wines in small lots from unique vineyard sites around California and let the fruit and the vineyard speak for themselves.

Opened in 2017, the Cochon Tasting Bar allows visitors to taste the wines of Cochon and Odisea alongside co-brandsGardienne des Vignes and Elévé. Just off the Sonoma Square, this is a great spot to enjoy a wide variety of wines as well as Cheese & Charcuterie and European-style Espresso.

Wines Produced:Red blends, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rosé, white blends

The place is adorable, it has a very welcoming, clean, bright, charming feel. We were able to sit down, relax, enjoy the weather and atmosphere and each other while sipping and snacking on their delicious charcuterie board. -A.M., Yelp Review

Fulcrum Wines

Fulcrum Wines

Downtown Sonoma

A Fulcrum is the point on which an object balances. This was the name winemaker David Rossi chose for his winery when he founded it in 2005—years before the word balance became an essential element in any discussion about great New World Pinot Noir. For David, a Fulcrum represented the style of winemaking he spent years refining. It was also an ideal metaphor for his belief in leveraging the finest grapes to create balanced, complex and age-worthy Pinot Noirs.

While Pinot Noir is a specialty, Fulcrum crafts a nice selection of cooler-climate varietals like Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. The modern tasting room is a half block from the main Sonoma square and includes a tasting of five current release wines from Fulcrum.

Wines Produced:Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Rosé, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc

This winery is heavy in Pinots. All of them were great and easy drinkers. They also served a Gewurztraminer that was outstanding. Great quality wine and customer service. This place is hidden gem! -J.L., Yelp Review

Meadowcroft Wines

Meadowcroft Wines

Carneros

Meadowcroft Wines are vineyard specific and limited in production, expressing both European wine heritage and California creativity. Winemaker Tom Meadowcroft's goal is to produce wines of complexity and character, which means sourcing from the winery's exceptional estate vineyard on Napa's Mount Veeder. Meadowcroft produces a deep bench of varietals, including sparkling wines and French Colombard, and were named a top 100 winery in the 2019 Wine & Spirits Magazine. The tasting room is located in Carneros' Cornerstone market, within walking distance to shops, restaurants and expansive gardens.

REVISED BENEFIT: Traditional tastings are not available at Meadowcroft at the moment, so your normal WineryHunt benefits will not apply. Instead, they are offering their Taste of Meadowcroft experience at 20% off (wine club member price). Wines Produced:Sparkling, French Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, Riesling, Sangiovese, Rosé, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, GSM, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Blends

We had the best time at Meadowcroft, the wines were phenomenal and Andrew and the other employees made it a delightful experience. The small location provides the perfect atmosphere for an intimate experience. Definitely make sure to stop here while touring wine country, Meadowcroft wines were our favorite wines of the entire trip! -EC, Google Review

Pax Mahle Wines

Sebastopol

Pax and Pamela Mahle made a bold choice by favoring the “untapped potential" of the Syrah grape. The entire lineup of wines came from cool climate vineyards in Sonoma County and Mendocino. These wines went on to be highly sought after and Pax quickly became established as one of California’s premier producers of Syrah.

The winemaking at Pax Wines is approached holistically, taking care to use only grapes that are grown without the use of chemicals and by hand-making the wines with as little intervention as possible. As a result, all of the wines are crushed by foot and hand and fermented using only natural yeasts.

The cozy, urban tasting room is based in Sebastopol in the outdoor marketplace known as The Barlow. This industrial chic tasting room is just the place to enjoy a relaxed afternoon or start your wine tasting adventure. They offer a laidback experience where you can relax on a couch and enjoy delicious wines with no pretense.

Wines Produced: Syrah, Chenin Blanc, Gamay

Gorgeous tasting room with reclaimed wood, concrete and marble bar and big cozy couches to nestle into. But the best is the wine! Delicious. Restrained yet lush. Many varietals to choose from. Their tasting guide is the best! -JH, Google Review

Pedroncelli Wine

Pedroncelli Winery

Dry Creek North

Ninety-one years ago Giovanni and Julia Pedroncelli were drawn to a small property being offered in a distress sale. This farm, located in the now famous Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, included 25 acres of vineyard, a shuttered winery and a home. They were willing to buy a winery property mid-Prohibition, one of the many “firsts” of the Pedroncelli legacy. Working together they forged a family business which spans four generations so far with grandchildren and great-grandchildren learning from the ground up. The pillars of their success are based on family, farming and their flagship wines Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Visitors to Pedroncelli will enjoy over 20 wines to choose from. The laid-back attitude combined with educational tidbits makes for a warm, inviting and memorable wine tasting experience.

Wines Produced: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon

It was our first time in Sonoma and Pedroncelli was a delightful stop. Soooo friendly and they had an excellent selection of wine! It became our first and only wine club that we joined on this trip. They have a taste for everyone. -P.E., Google Review

Note: Because of their intimate by-appointment tasting format, Pedroncelli is not able to offer completely free tastings to members. Instead, members will receive tastings at half price ($10), as well as the usual 10% discount.

Red Car Wine Co.

Sebastopol

For nearly 20 years, Red Car has been on a journey—one that started in sunny Los Angeles and marched steadily northward toward a vision of cooler vineyard sites and the complex, aromatic wines they can express.

Red Car was founded by Mark Estrin, Carroll Kemp and Richard Crowell in 2000 with 50 cases of wine made from a single ton of Syrah grapes vinified in a Culver City garage. In a nod to their California roots, the new venture was named Red Car after the trolley line that ferried riders across Los Angeles for the first half of the twentieth century. In 2004, the partners purchased 125 acres of land and began developing vineyards in the wild coastal ridges north of Sonoma County’s Bodega Bay, a region now known as the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA. Here, the interplay of warm sunshine, cool Pacific breezes and sandstone soils would yield the age-worthy wines of structure and complexity that had captured their imagination.

Today, after years of refinement and changes in ownership, original founder Richard and his wife Alison are focused on promoting Red Car’s beloved wines. Red Car is one of the few growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in Fort Ross - Seaview and offer tastings from their tasting room and lounge in Sebastopol.

Wines Produced: Rose of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Roussanne

One of our favorite stops along our wine adventure. Great music! Overall very approachable. Best Pinot Noirs we tried all over Sonoma and Napa. This is a must-stop! -BW, Google Review

Sbragia Wine

Sbragia Family Vineyards

Dry Creek North

In the 1950s Gino Sbragia re-planted the prune fields on his property to winegrapes, mainly Zinfandel, which the whole family helped tend. Gino sold most of the grapes to other wineries, yet kept a small amount to make into wine at home. He had an old-world philosophy that winemaking was a natural process; all you needed for good wine was good land, good grapes, and good techniques. He was right, and that has been the guiding principle for both Gino's son and grandson who have followed in his footsteps.

Gino’s dream was to start a family winery; to make wine from his own grapes with the family name on the label. His dream has passed its way down through the family, and in August 2006 the doors to the tasting room at Sbragia Family Vineyards opened.

The wines Sbragia Family Vineyards produces from both Sonoma and Napa are intensely personal, an expression of single vineyard terroir, and history that runs through it all. Adam, Gino's grandson, now makes the wines. He continues the pedigree of high scores, awards won and a profile of all together with big, rich, polished and most importantly, delicious Chardonnays, Zinfandels, and Cabernets.

Wines Produced: Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon

Sitting on the deck at Sbragia, overlooking the dark green and muted yellow hills, made the fear of missing other wineries fade away. It was a wonderful afternoon tasting some delicious reds and whites, definitely one of the top experiences in the area. -J.C., Google Review

Taft Street Winery

Sebastopol

Like the renegade Bordeaux winemakers known as Garagistes, Taft Street began in a garage rather than a grand chateau, stressing quality without pretense. Since 1979, the Taft Street team has carried on the garagistes tradition of innovation and excellence in a chateau-alternative locale.

From a backyard Berkeley garage to an old apple processing plant in Sebastopol, California, the family at Taft Street continues in the garagistes traditions to this day, crafting limited production, crowd pleasing wines from select Sonoma County vineyards. Visit the tasting room for exclusive wines, a relaxing atmosphere, and the ability to bring in a picnic lunch to enjoy on the patio or play on the bocce court!

Wines Produced: Sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, rose, pinot noir, zinfandel

We loved this winery. Absolutely excellent wine—we especially loved the rose and Chardonnay. Honestly everything we tasted was phenomenal. Great experience and very nice people, all in the heart of the Russian river valley! -AT, Google Review
