A Wine Tasting Itinerary in the northern Dry Creek Valley AVA

The Dry Creek Valley AVA is located west of Healdsburg and includes 9,000+ acres of vineyards and over 70 wineries. Best known for producing robust Zinfandels, there are so many amazing wineries in the Dry Creek Valley that we couldn’t just feature it for one month. Pedroncelli Winery

Ninety-one years ago Giovanni and Julia Pedroncelli were drawn to a small property being offered in a distress sale. This farm, located in the now famous Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, included 25 acres of vineyard, a shuttered winery and a home. They were willing to buy a winery property mid-Prohibition, one of the many “firsts” of the Pedroncelli legacy. Working together they forged a family business which spans four generations so far with grandchildren and great-grandchildren learning from the ground up. The pillars of their success are based on family, farming and their flagship wines Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Visitors to Pedroncelli will enjoy over 20 wines to choose from. The laid-back attitude combined with educational tidbits makes for a warm, inviting and memorable wine tasting experience.

Wines Produced: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon

It was our first time in Sonoma and Pedroncelli was a delightful stop. Soooo friendly and they had an excellent selection of wine! It became our first and only wine club that we joined on this trip. They have a taste for everyone. -P.E., Google Review

I've been to my share of wineries and vineyards and this is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. I've never seen such beautiful and well kept gardens. Our wine guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us so much great information. Each and every wine was out of this world. -CA, Google Review

Sbragia Family Vineyards

In the 1950s Gino Sbragia re-planted the prune fields on his property to winegrapes, mainly Zinfandel, which the whole family helped tend. Gino sold most of the grapes to other wineries, yet kept a small amount to make into wine at home. He had an old-world philosophy that winemaking was a natural process; all you needed for good wine was good land, good grapes, and good techniques. He was right, and that has been the guiding principle for both Gino's son and grandson who have followed in his footsteps.

Gino’s dream was to start a family winery; to make wine from his own grapes with the family name on the label. His dream has passed its way down through the family, and in August 2006 the doors to the tasting room at Sbragia Family Vineyards opened.

The wines Sbragia Family Vineyards produces from both Sonoma and Napa are intensely personal, an expression of single vineyard terroir, and history that runs through it all. Adam, Gino's grandson, now makes the wines. He continues the pedigree of high scores, awards won and a profile of all together with big, rich, polished and most importantly, delicious Chardonnays, Zinfandels, and Cabernets.

Wines Produced: Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon

Sitting on the deck at Sbragia, overlooking the dark green and muted yellow hills, made the fear of missing other wineries fade away. It was a wonderful afternoon tasting some delicious reds and whites, definitely one of the top experiences in the area. -J.C., Google Review
